Katie Kimbrell

I am morphing from an abstract painter inspired by unseen worlds (those known about through science) to part cityscape painter. I have begun to mix my urban landscape, East Boston with my abstract language. The extent to which sources of inspiration are recognizable ranges. On one end of the spectrum paintings contain obvious depictions of what I see: clouds, gulls, construction cranes to those that appear to be all about color, texture, and paint. Even in my seemingly near pure abstract works there is reference to the historied textures of buildings through re-exposure of layered paint.
